Day 108: Celebrating A Dear Brother

1 Timothy 5:17 Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.

Here we have precedence to celebrate the leaders that God has ordained for us. We did such a thing this evening as we celebrated our pastors 50th year of life and the many ways that God has used Him to minister to each of us.

We are very fortunate that God has graced us with a true proclaimer of the Word. Pastor Michael Durham has wonderful giftings and uses those to minister to the flock God has ordained to his control. He will be quick to tell you he is not the Head of the church, but point you every time to the true Head, Jesus Christ. As a matter of fact, that is Whom he points us to in every situation, as a pastor should.

He is truly an abnormality these days, in a world of preachers pandering to itching ears. Pastor Durham is among the remnant that faithfully expounds the Word for the glory of God and God alone. He has personally ministered to me and my family and seen us through some difficult times. I can truthfully say, that if it weren't for his investment into my marriage that I would not be married today. He and his wife, Ms. Karen, sacrificed many hours to Chandra and I, giving us true biblical counseling and pointing us to the Cross. Thank God that we heeded the call of His faithful servant and can now rejoice in our marriage as actually glorifying to God.

We love our pastor dearly. We do not take him for granted. I pray that if you have a faithful proclaimer of the Word, someone that lays his life down for the Gospel, a pastor that is truly a bondservant of the Lords to never take him for granted. Make sure you encourage him and pray for him daily. Let him know that he is appreciated and his adherence to the things of God and tending to the flock is much needed. Give him double honor.
